It was a high honor to be invited to attend the International Women of Courage (IWOC) Awards at the State Department in March 2019. Secretary Mike Pompeo hosted the event, which pays tribute to 10 extraordinary women from around the world. First Lady Melania Trump delivered the keynote address.
IWOC recipients have demonstrated exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for peace, justice, human rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment – often at great personal risk and sacrifice. 2019 awardees included women from Bangladesh, Burma, Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Montenegro, Peru, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Ireland.
